At its heart is a fully mechanical horizontal cloth shutter with a shutter speed range from 1 second to 1/1000 s, plus a Bulb mode for extended exposures—offering full creative control without relying on electronics. The exposure meter works through the lens (TTL) via a silicon photodiode, reading a 12 mm spot which corresponds to roughly 13% of the frame. The metering system covers a wide range, from EV –2 to EV 20, and the ISO sensitivity is manually settable from ISO 6 to 6400, giving you enormous flexibility in choosing film.
The body feels substantial thanks to its all-metal construction with brass top and base plates, combining durability with refined elegance. It supports Leica M-mount lenses, so you can pair it with a wide spectrum of optics ranging from 21 mm to 135 mm—from wide-angle masterpieces to telephoto classics.
The bright viewfinder features automatic parallax compensation and frames for 28, 35, 50, 75, 90, and 135 mm lenses, ensuring precise composition. Inside the viewfinder, a set of LED indicators (two triangular and one circular) helps you balance exposure and monitor battery status, subtly guiding your adjustments.
Despite being mostly mechanical, the Leica MP does use power—but only for the light meter. It runs on two SR44 (PX76) silver-oxide cells or one DL 1/3 N lithium cell, preserving the minimalist and reliable nature of the camera. Measuring about 138 × 77 × 38 mm and weighing approximately 585 g (without batteries), it strikes a beautiful balance between portability and a solid, premium feel.
